My service aboard the *Soval* under Captain T'Varis represented a period of considerable professional growth. Over four years, I refined the ship's duty rotation to increase crew efficiency by twelve percent, developed emergency response protocols that reduced evacuation time by nearly one-third, and successfully mediated a dispute between the engineering and tactical departments that had persisted for six months prior to my arrival. I believe I earned the respect of the crew-not through emotional display, which would have been illogical, but through consistent performance and equitable treatment of all personnel regardless of species or rank. Captain T'Varis once noted that my administrative precision was "satisfactory," which, from a Vulcan commanding officer, constitutes high praise. I am proud of what I accomplished there.
Serving under Captain Phoenix will present a different set of challenges. For four years, my commanding officer operated from a framework of pure logic; requests were evaluated on merit, decisions rendered without emotional consideration, and expectations communicated with absolute clarity. A human captain, I have observed, often incorporates intuition, personal rapport, and what they term "gut instinct" into their command style. This will require me to adapt my communication methods, to anticipate reactions that do not follow strictly logical progressions, and to interpret subtext that a Vulcan would consider inefficient. I welcome this challenge. If I am to become the finest Executive Officer in Starfleet, I must demonstrate proficiency in serving under any species, not merely those who share my heritage. The opportunity to refine my skills in this manner is... valuable.
On a personal note, I have made a deliberate adjustment to my recreational habits. My holodeck usage had reached levels that, while not interfering with my duties, represented a solitary pattern of behavior that offered limited interpersonal benefit. I have begun inviting crew members to join me in my simulations-athletic competitions, flight exercises, historical scenarios. It serves a dual purpose: it reminds them to take breaks from their work, which improves their performance, and it provides me with companionship that I had not previously prioritized. I have found that sharing these experiences with others is... not unpleasant. I hope to find someone aboard the *Horizon* who will join me in these endeavors. The programs I acquired at Deep Space Nine remain untested, and it would be logical to have company for their initial use.
There is one matter I must address at my earliest convenience. Pon Farr has not yet occurred, and I am now approximately one year overdue by standard Vulcan biological markers. This is not unprecedented, but it is medically notable. I must schedule an examination with the *Horizon*'s chief medical officer to determine whether intervention is required or if the condition will resolve itself. I do not anticipate complications, but vigilance is logical.
